- Choose an instrument sound and set the output volume before you begin.
- Press the labelled computer keys, click a piano key or touch it on a phone or tablet.
- Use octave down or up to move the mapped notes into a comfortable register.
- Turn sustain on when you want released notes to ring for longer.
- Select Record, play a phrase, then stop and use Playback to hear it again.

How many notes are on a piano?
A full acoustic piano has 88 keys: 52 white and 36 black, running from A0 up to C8. That is seven complete octaves plus a minor third, built from only twelve note names that repeat. This virtual piano shows two octaves at a time, and the octave buttons slide that window from C2 up to B7 — the part of the range beginner and intermediate repertoire actually uses.
Can I play this piano on a phone?
Yes. The keyboard responds to touch and rearranges its controls for smaller screens. Landscape orientation gives the keys more room.
Which computer keys play which piano notes?
A S D F G H J K L play the white keys from C upward, and W E T Y U O P play the black keys above them. Each key carries its letter label on screen, so you can read the note name and the computer key at the same time.
Why is there no sound at first?
Browsers require a click, touch or key press before starting audio. Interact with any piano key and audio will initialise.
Does the recording leave my device?
No. A recording is a temporary list of notes held in the current browser session. It is not uploaded or saved to an account.
Is a real piano needed to practise?
No. This tool is useful for learning note names and hearing intervals, although a physical keyboard is better for developing touch and posture.
