Virtual Drums – Play an Online Drum Set for Free
This virtual drum set gives you ten pads on a playable 3D kit: kick, snare, closed and open hi-hat, crash, ride, high, mid and floor toms, plus a clap. Hit them with mapped computer keys, a mouse click on the drum itself or a tap on the online drum pads below the kit. Sampled acoustic recordings rotate three ways on the drums and cymbals, so repeated hits stay natural instead of machine-gunning, and the record button captures a groove you can play straight back.

How to use virtual drums
- Set the master volume, then trigger a pad once to start browser audio.
- Use the labelled keyboard letters for two-handed patterns or tap pads directly.
- Begin with kick on beats one and three and snare on beats two and four.
- Add closed hi-hat taps between the main drum hits to create a steady pulse.
- Record a short groove, stop recording and play it back to review your timing.

Frequently asked questions
Can I play these drums with my computer keyboard?
Yes. Every drum has a mapped letter: X and C for kick and snare, A and S for closed and open hi-hat, and Q W E R T Y for the crash, ride, three toms and clap. Keyboard input allows several drums to sound at once, which is how you play a kick and a cymbal together.
Is this a drum machine?
Not in the step-sequencer sense. It is a playable kit rather than a virtual drum machine with a programmable grid, so patterns come from what you perform. You can still record a groove in real time and play it straight back with the playback button.
Are the drum sounds licensed samples?
Yes. The acoustic sounds are adapted from Lars Muldjord's multichannel DrumGizmo kit under CC BY 4.0. A lightweight Web Audio synthesizer is retained only as a fallback if samples cannot load.
Can I play several drums at once?
Yes. Sounds overlap so you can combine kick, cymbal and snare hits or trigger fast repeated notes.
Why can phone latency vary?
Mobile power-saving modes, Bluetooth audio and browser scheduling can add delay. Built-in speakers or wired headphones usually feel more immediate.
Can I export a recording?
The MVP plays recordings back inside the current session. Audio or MIDI export is not included yet.
